The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) seized 180 kilos of cocaine in 177 packages, during a joint operation with the Justice Department in a rural community in the southwestern province of Azua yesterday. According to Diario Libre, officers from the Technical Department for Sensitive Investigations (DITIS) have not yet established where the drugs came from, or where they entered the country, according to a statement by DNCD spokesman Colonel Ramon Alcides Rodriguez.
According to reports, the shipment owners escaped when the authorities approached the site. The operation took place in the community of Las Guanabanas, after an intelligence operation by officers from the anti-narcotics agency. The 177 "bricks" were distributed in four bundles of 30 each and in three bags with the remaining 57 packages. The bundles were wrapped in black and transparent film covers.
A black motorcycle without license plates was abandoned at the scene. The DNCD spokesman said that the search for the shipment owners was being extended from the southwest to the rest of the country.
