The new mayor of Santiago, Guillermo Serulle has submitted a petition to the prosecutor for Santiago, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, requesting an investigation into alleged corruption during former Mayor Jose Enrique Sued's administration (2006-10). Serulle points to misappropriation of public funds by his predecessor, as reported in 7dias.com.do
The complaint was delivered to the Santiago prosecutor office by Santiago city government legal advisor Fernando Quinones.
The Mayor's office is claiming irregularities ranging from the lack of an adequate accounting system to the disbursement of funds with the backing of forged receipts. In addition to Sued, the new mayor's office is requesting an investigation into the former financial advisor to the city government, Rafael Alberto Suazo, former treasury director Dominga Altagracia Jaquez Munoz, former accounting director Yubelis Altagracia Cruz de Leon, Jose Ambiorix Jimenez and Ambiorix Colon.
