Not to be missed are the Dominicana Moda fashion exhibits and shows currently under way at Santo Domingo's Hotel Embajador. A free fashion exhibition by Tioca is scheduled for 6pm today in the Mall area. There is a trade show area with leading fashion companies exhibiting and many parties sponsored by leading drinks companies follow when the runway shows end.
On schedule for today are fashion shows by Jeff Sanchez, Juan Cotes and Jeanette Limas at noon, Oriett Domenech and Carlos Frank, Then at 3pm, Cristian Lagares and Cinthia Avelino at 5pm, Carlos de Moya and Larissa Salcedo at 7pm, Lucia Rodriguez and Kenneth Cole at 9pm and Magaly Tiburcio at 10:30pm.
Dominicana Moda is a platform for launching emerging talent with fashions by leading Dominican designers. Dominican models making international runways were discovered at Dominicana Moda in previous years.
Oscar de la Renta had been announced for the closing runway show, but he reported that health problems would keep him abroad.
There is a benefit on Friday, 22 October with fashion by Gutierrez/Marcano. The proceeds will be donated to Fundacion Caminantes por la Vida, a cancer charity. Tickets priced at RD$2,000 are for sale at Haagen Dazs.
