The start of the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship takes place at 7:25pm tonight. A half-hour opening ceremony at the Quisqueya Ball Park will be held in memory of MLB pitcher Jose Lima who died recently, and the baseball players who died in the Rio Verde airplane crash tragedy in 1948.
On the opening day, the Escogido will match the Licey at the Quisqueya Ball Park, the Aguilas will match the Gigantes at the Julian Javier stadium in San Francisco de Macoris, and the Toros del Este will match the Estrellas Orientales in San Pedro's Tetelo Vargas Stadium.
Participating teams are Leones del Escogido (2009-10 Champions), Tigres del Licey, Gigantes de San Francisco, Aguilas Cibaenas, Estrellas, Toros del Este and Estrellas Orientales.
