Travelers driving along John F. Kennedy Avenue in Santo Domingo can expect worse bottlenecks. Builders of the second line of the Santo Domingo Metro confirmed that eastbound traffic at the John F. Kennedy and Maximo Gomez intersection is closed to traffic since Saturday as new tunneling works are under way to make room for the Metro line. Traffic is only possible under the tunnel that crosses the intersection. Engineer Diandino Pena, director of the Metro Office (Opret) said that works could last two or three weeks. The second line of the metro runs from the Duarte Highway intersection with Luperon to the bridge known as El Puente de la 17. Pena told Listin Diario he is optimistic the funds will be enough to reach Los Alcarrizos.
