The old commercial "Got milk?" was revived today as Listin Diario revealed that the recently concluded session of Congress worked for just 56 days for a total of 108 hours. More than 3,800 bills were introduced, and 2,920 were approved. There were 906 new laws, 48 international agreements, six loans, five diplomatic approvals, 53 resolutions and 1,917 contracts between the government and private parties. In spite of all this "hard work" there is still one law awaiting approval, 24 pensions to be assigned, one official award to be handed out and 1,858 contracts to be vetted. Considering that each legislator receives over RD$1.2 million per year, the hourly wage of RD$10,000 seems very attractive. And then, President Fernandez returned the pension legislation to Congress. The bill would have given the members of the legislature who had lost their seats an attractive pension of 80% of their current salaries.
