A general strike called by the country's transport unions that haul gasoline, diesel and propane fuels throughout the country has created the specter of long lines at the gas pumps. Spokesmen for the haulers say that they expect to meet with Vice-President Rafael Alburquerque in order to look for a solution. According to a Hoy newspaper report, the unions control 60% of fuel distribution to retailers across the DR. Minister of Finance Vicente Bengoa guaranteed that the governmental authorities will ensure a flow of fuel to retailers.
