Public Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez said that following instructions from President Leonel Fernandez, he has dispatched three tons of chlorine to Haiti. He also announced that the DR's priorities in dealing with the cholera outbreak in Haiti included creating awareness among Dominicans, who have not had experience of the disease. He said there was no need for public alarm, because rigorous control measures are being implemented, including a sanitary barrier at the border. He announced the market days at the border would continue, but with stringent controls, as reported in El Nuevo Diario.
