Fishermen returned from Jamaica

The 66 Dominican fishermen jailed in Jamaica for fishing illegally in Jamaican territorial waters were repatriated last Friday after spending a month in Jamaican jails. The fishermen returned aboard the Sun Mar, captained by Carlos Felix along with seven crewmen who traveled to Jamaica to collect the fishermen. According to reports in Listin Diario, the Dominican fishermen were stopped by a Jamaican patrol boat, whose crew boarded after shooting off a machinegun, and then beat the fishermen. The men had shipped out on the good ship Mister James and they were arrested on the Pedro Baun Banks off of Jamaica. They returned to Puerto Plata to tell of their experiences.
