Two men were arrested as they tried to free a female drug mule from her hospital room in the Cabral y Baez Hospital in Santiago. The two men, Jose Manuel Gonzalez and Ramon Antonio Colon were arrested by a police patrol that went to the aid of Sergeant Cecilio Cuevas Reyes who had been attacked by the two men as they tried to free Yahaira Mercedes Hiciano, who had tried to board an American Airlines flight to New York with 49 small bags of cocaine in her stomach. The two men were arrested and sent to the local District Attorney's office for processing. The attack took place in the presence of the DNCD assistant District Attorney, Gerardo Andres Francisco Aponte.
