President Leonel Fernandez is dedicating his time to visit PLD party committees nationwide. As reported in Diario Libre, he has set aside 31 October to 6 February for holding regional assemblies at the party chapters for swearing in new party members. Eleven weekends have been set apart for the political activities. The newspaper reports that next weekend, President Fernandez will be in San Francisco de Macoris, accompanied by other members of the ruling party's political committee. He will be in Barahona for political meetings on 14 November.
President Fernandez is also president of the PLD.
As reported in Diario Libre, PLD organizational secretary Felix Bautista, who is now the senator for San Juan de la Maguana, said: "These are not activities for promoting candidates. The objective is to get the party moving and officially welcome thousands of Dominicans who have decided to join the PLD."
The government is by far the main employer in the Dominican Republic.
