The World Bank will be donating US$300,000 to improve the efficiency of audits on government entities conducted by the Chamber of Accounts, under its president, Licelot Marte de Barrios.
Roby Senderowitsch, World Bank representative in the DR, made the announcement with Economy, Planning and Development Minister Temistocles Montas. The funds seek to expand the capacity of government audits, train technical staff, establish auditing models according to international standards and create a training module for 15 auditors.
Montas said the effort would contribute to strengthening democracy by improving transparency in the administration of government funds. Senderowitsch highlighted the importance of strengthening public controls and monitoring of government. He said this is the first activity carried out following recommendations that came through meetings with government, private sector and civil society of the Participative Anti-Corruption Initiative (IPAC), as reported in 7dias.com.do (http://7dias.com.do).
