The directors of civil society group Citizen Participation (PC) have met with the president of the Chamber of Deputies to offer their collaboration in the efforts to modify laws related to transparency and accountability in government. Chamber president Abel Martinez said the meeting consisted of an exchange of ideas on bills aimed at helping make government more transparent, as reported in 7dias.com.do.
Santiago Sosa of PC and Martinez said a series of workshops would be held for this purpose.
Sosa said that he disagreed with legislators who are promoting the re-election of President Leonel Fernandez in 2012 when this is banned in the 2010 Constitution. "The Constitution cannot be modified for a particular situation, when there was so much work going into the one we have," he said.
Also representing PC at the meeting with the deputies were Isidoro Santana and Francisco Alvarez.
