The Santo Domingo Fashion Manifesto was signed during Dominicana Moda 2010, the week of fashion staged at the Hotel Embajador. During the event, the first meeting of Latin America runway directors was held. The document seeks to serve as a platform for promoting fashion in the region, from an economic, social and cultural perspective.
As reported in El Caribe, representatives of the leading fashion runway events in the Americas attended. They agreed to set up an initiative called LatinFashion, with a rotating site. The organization seeks to optimize efforts and funds for modernizing the fashion emerging sector in Latin America.
Socrates McKinney, one of the founders of Dominicana Moda, was chosen to serve as the first president of the LatinFashion Association. Others on the board are Vladimir Vargas (Ecuador) as vice president, Marie Claire Fontaine (Panama) as secretary general and Alejandro Medrano (Honduras) treasurer. Also Jose Luis Callejo (Spain) director of Communications and Institutional Relations, Yaruma Vasquez (Costa Rica) legal advisor, Cesar Rolon and Arabel Alba, directors of the Chicago Latino Fashion Week will be directors for North America.
