Local media are headlining President Leonel Fernandez's cry that, "the Lion will stay on the streets!" President Leonel Fernandez said yesterday that "no matter what" he would stay on the streets facing off with the PRD so that the PLD party stays in power in the presidential elections of 2012. The President said that "we have to close the bad road" and that the bad road will be closed for the 2012 election, referring to the PRD. "I am telling you now the PLD Lion will be on the streets to fend off the PRD ox under any circumstances, until the victory in the first round of the 16 May 2012 elections", said Fernandez.
He stated that when the PRD has governed the Dominican Republic has been ruined and stagnated, but when the PLD is in power, the nation advances and progresses. Fernandez was speaking during an assembly at the Wholesalers Club in San Francisco de Macoris, where he swore in hundreds of new PLD members from the provinces of Duarte, Samana, Sanchez Ramirez and Maria Trinidad Sanchez. The President said that his presence at the assembly was not as a hopeful for the presidential nomination or as a candidate for the PLD presidency, but that he was there at the request of the party's political committee.
