The closure of the bi-national market in Dajabon has cost local hoteliers and traders about RD$35 million, according to the president of the Hotel Association in Dajabon, Juan Tomas Sosa. He said that the demand for products as well as rooms has fallen off greatly since the suspension of the two market days, Monday and Friday. Sosa says he supports the preventive measures taken by the authorities to control the spread of cholera from Haiti, but he said regardless of the ban on regular crossings, lots of Haitians are still crossing the border. In contrast, according to Listin Diario, a cattle ranchers group in Loma de Cabrera issued a statement that said that the flow of Haitians had been greatly reduced.
