Presidential Technical Secretary Temistocles Montas has blamed the Central Bank's quasi-fiscal deficit on the fact that the previous administration's authorities broke the monetary and financial laws and caused a problem to the entire country. Listin Diario reports that according to Montas, when the authorities decided to pay back savings in excess of RD$500,000, they broke the law which stated that if a bank is in trouble, savers with over RD$500,000 should not be repaid until the problem is solved. Montas made these comments during an interview on Diario Libre's television broadcast on Antena Latina, Channel 7.
