The vice president of the European Investment Bank, Plutarchos Sakellaris says that the bank has US$47 million to lend to the DR, as reported in El Dia. It said that of this sum, US$37 million is being allocated to the governmental Empresa de Transmision Electrica to finance improvement of electricity transmission lines in the southwest and another US$10 million to the Savings & Credit Bank (ADEMI) for funding micro-businesses.
He said that the bank recently signed two agreements, one with Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa, and the other with the president of the board of Ademi.
Sakellaris said that the US$47 million is part of a US$135 million package available for financing in the Caribbean. He said that the DR's economy was very active and important in their operations in the Caribbean.
