Drivers of freight trucks carrying consumer goods and construction supplies into Haiti have resumed their activities after a break lasting several days due to the controls imposed to prevent the cholera epidemic from spreading into Dominican territory, as reported in Diario Libre.
Since early this morning, dozens of trucks laden with foodstuffs and construction materials seen were crossing the bridge over the Masacre River. The tractor-trailers and trucks distribute their loads in several towns in the north of Haiti as well as Port-au-Prince. Nevertheless, the bi-national market day that is usually held on Mondays and Fridays in Dajabon, between Haitians and Dominicans, remains suspended. ?
Dajabon provincial Public Health director Rafael Hubiera Salas says that not a single case of cholera has been reported on this side of the border. He said that before they launched a preventive hygiene campaign five or six Haitians were diagnosed with diarrhea every day, but since their hygiene campaign started last week only nine cases have been reported.
