El Caribe is calling the municipal authorities' attention to the garbage dumps that are forming under the many overpasses the government has built in cities to ease the flow of vehicular traffic. Some of the worst examples include the Duarte & Paris, 27 de Febrero, JF Kennedy and Luperon overpasses. Garbage, street vendors, beggars and drug addicts feel at home under the overpasses. "The problem of the neglect that affects these structures is nothing new," reports El Caribe. The newspaper describes how the lighting has been extracted, and how these areas sometimes become parking lots or living quarters for homeless people.
The newspaper also points out that nearby businesses have set up informal warehouses, as in the case of the Avenida Duarte.
In a curious case, in Los Alcarrizos, the protective barriers were broken and domino match players gather underneath for games.
