The Justice Department is asking for 30-year sentences against eight of the accused in the Paya massacre case, 20 years for seven of the accused and 10 years for the remaining defendants. In addition, the prosecutors asked the court to seize the movable and immovable assets and the destruction of the eight kilograms of cocaine that were seized. According to the accusation, the group was responsible for a drug heist involving some 1,300 kilograms of cocaine, which led to the murder of the seven Colombians. The case is being heard at the Third Collegiate Tribunal of the Penal Chamber of the Court of the First Instance of the National District.
The Justice Department asked the tribunal to accept the charges of sponsoring drug trafficking with aggravating circumstances, unlawful association to commit crimes listed in the Law on Drugs, complicity in criminal activities and murder, criminal association, bearing of illegal military weapons, and money laundering against Luis de Jesus Lara Martinez and Jose Luis Montas Vargas (El Duro Motors). Accordingly, the prosecutors called for 30-year sentences in isolation and the payment of RD$1 million each. The accusations against Ricardo German Perez were the same except for the laundering of assets, and the prosecutors asked for the sentence to be served in the Moca Jail along with the RD$1 million fine. Diario Libre reports that the prosecution asked for lesser sentences for some of the 20 defendants.
