All attention in the DR is on how hard neighboring Haiti will be hit by Tomas, which could be a category 1 hurricane when passing between Cuba and Haiti tomorrow. Government weather forecasters in the DR have issued a yellow alert warning on floods and landslides in six southwestern provinces. The alert covers the provinces of Barahona, Pedernales, San Juan de la Maguana, Elias Pina, Independencia and Bahoruco.
Green alert warnings are in effect for the provinces of Azua, San Cristobal in the south, and Monte Cristi and Santiago Rodriguez (northwest) and La Vega, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, Duarte and Maria Trinidad Sanchez in the north.
