The president of the Dominican Republic Association of Industries (AIRD), Manuel Diez Cabral presented a new Industrial Code of Ethics yesterday. He said the code was being presented at a time when the stakes are high for the loss of values and the attainment of social equity appears to be far removed. "Easy wealth, the culture of consuming more than what we can, apathy in the face of abuses, a lack of respect for basic rights of citizens, aggression and violence are becoming common ways of behaving. Unfulfilled promises, going back on ones word and violation of laws with astonishing ease are only some of the elements our society is experiencing and these indicate we are not going in the right direction," said Diez Cabral during the launch of the publication, as reported in 7dias.com.do
He said the AIRD supports market freedom, respect for the rights of consumers and the promotion of equal opportunities in the workforce. He said that for businesses it would be "suicidal not to adopt these and other corporate measures that guarantee long term sustainability".
