Senator-elect for La Altagracia, Amable Aristy Castro, has finally resigned from his post as secretary general of the Dominican Municipal League. The ex-oficio president of the LMD, Interior and Police Minister Franklin Almeyda Rancier, in coordination with the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu) convened an assembly of 155 mayors to elect his replacement for Saturday, 13 November.
Castro should have taken up his senate post on 16 August, but instead chose to stay on at his long-term job at the LMD, the body that handles municipal budgets. As his substitute, Aristy Castro has proposed his cousin Fidias Aristy, who currently serves as deputy secretary general of the LMD. He has proposed that Fidias Aristy should take up the post through 26 January 2011.
