The Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation for Santo Domingo (CAASD) was able to re-open two of its main sources of water yesterday. According to director Freddy Perez, more supplies will be available from the Valdesia and Isabela water sources today. The CAASD said that rains from Hurricane Tomas had caused flooding, leading to the closure of four aqueducts that supply the city with water. Two have been reopened so far. According to Perez, the Isabela, Haina-Manoguayabo, Duey and Valdesia aqueducts were all affected by the flooding. El Caribe newspaper reports that the Duey and Haina-Manoguayabo aqueducts went into service yesterday but two others, Isabela and Valdesia, won't enter service until later today. These are the sources for most of the water in the neighborhoods south of 27 de Febrero Avenue and parts of Herrera in Santo Domingo. Perez is advising users to add a few drops of chlorine to their water (5 drops per gallon).
