Gasoline prices remained the same this week, but the cost of a gallon of diesel fuel increased by RD$1.50 for regular and RD$2.20 for the premium blend. Avtur, the fuel used by most jet airplanes, increased in price by RD$2.29 a gallon and is now RD$115.62, one of the most expensive in the Caribbean. Fuel oil, used for the production of electricity, suffered the biggest increase, RD$3.72 a gallon. And LPG, the fuel used by most public cars and households for cooking, went up by RD$2.00 a gallon, and now sells for RD$85.79 a gallon.
According to reports in the newspapers, the higher costs were due to an increase in the price of crude oil on the commodity markets where it reached US$86.57 a barrel.
