The provincial governor of Dajabon, Esther Ramirez has announced that the Haitian authorities now accept that the bi-national market, held on Monday and Friday, can operate from the installations of the Fundacion Solidaridad Fronteriza, as reported in Diario Libre. The facility was built by the Dominican government with funds from the European Union. She said that work has begun on preparing the new market area for use. Ramirez said that the new market will operate as a restricted area and will be monitored by the Border Patrol Services (CESfront) so that traders crossing from Haiti keep within the installations and do not stay inside the town of Dajabon. The measure will be in place while there is a cholera outbreak in Haiti, as part of measures aimed at preventing the disease from spreading to the DR.
