Prior to reaching the last point in his pilgrimage, the Presidential Palace, crusading Angel Sosa accepted a RD$10,000 job in government. He will now be working at the Direccion General de Desarrollo de la Comunidad as a general supervisor. He said that he accepted the post because the job will enable him to work for the community, as reported in Diario Libre.
After losing his government job, Sosa set out on a 305km pilgrimage to protest against the government for failing to fulfill campaign promises by President Leonel Fernandez, made when visiting Dajabon province in February when on campaign for congressional and municipal elections.
President Fernandez did not receive Sosa at the Presidential Palace. Government officers Mariano German, who is president of the Commission for Support to Provincial Development received him and gave a detailed report on all the government works under way in the province of Dajabon. Nevertheless, Presidential spokesman Roberto Rodriguez Marchena admitted that the works under way in the provinces have been paralyzed since May due to a reduction in government resources, but promised that these would be soon resumed.
