President Leonel Fernandez was in Samana on Thursday for the inauguration of the new aqueduct serving the northeastern province, which was built at a cost of RD$5.8 billion.
Some 187,000 people will benefit, according to the director of the National Institute of Aqueducts (INAPA), Mariano German. He said that the system includes a reservoir at the San Juan River operated by gravity and electric pumps, and a treatment plant with capacity for 600 liters/second and seven storage tanks with capacity for 3.3 million gallons. The water is distributed over pipes covering a distance of 132kms.
The event provided an opportunity for several government officials and supporters to call for the President's re-election, as reported in Hoy. Presidential re-election in banned in the 2010 Constitution.
