Merengue and bachata star Juan Luis Guerra won three Latin Grammy Awards at the 11th Annual Latin Grammys ceremony staged last night from Las Vegas. Guerra won the Album of the Year. In total he has won 12 Latin Grammys. Upon accepting his award, he said that "A Son de Guerra" is an album with romantic and also social characteristics. "This is an album full of romanticism, but it's also an album that calls for integrity and for morals," he said as reported in Billboard.
"I think the time has come for us to call things like they are... and also to demand better justice, more honesty and more integrity for the people of Latin America, so this is for a better Latin America," he told the stage, as reported in the New York Daily News.
Guerra also won Best Contemporary tropical album for "A Son de Guerra", and his "Bachata en Fukuoka" won for Best Tropical Song.
