Former secretary of agriculture during President Hipolito Mejia's administration and a close collaborator of the former President, Eligio Jaquez, has announced that he will side with Miguel Vargas Maldonado who is seeking the PRD nomination as candidate for the 2012 presidential election. Mejia is also a pre-candidate for the 2012 election. Jaquez, who will supervise Miguel Vargas' presidential campaign, was Mejia's campaign manager in the lead-up to the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections. As reported in Listin Diario, Jaquez says that Vargas Maldonado is the guarantee of unity and a win for the PRD. Vargas announced that Jaquez would work closely with Alfredo Pacheco.
