The president of the Dominican Exporters Association (Adoexpo), Kai Schoenhals forecasts that exports will be up in 2011 due to the start of mining exports -- Barrick, Falconbridge and Consorcio Minero Dominicano. He said there would be more raw sugar exports as the industry is being revived by new players, and predicted growth in non-traditional sectors. He forecast exports of US$4 billion in 2011, when speaking during the XXIV Grand Dinner of Exporters. He called for more sectors to become exporters to contribute to the nation's sustainable development. He encouraged them to seek new markets to reduce their dependency on the US market.
He said Dominican exports to the US topped the list with 62%, and Haiti with 14%, European Union 10%, and 14% the rest of the world. He called for more exports to markets in the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
