On 18 November, the winners of the Operalia music gala, will perform at the National Theater. This is a Fundacion Sinfonia production. Operalia is a benefit organized by Future of the South Foundation (Fundacion Sur Futuro) for their environmental, health, education and infrastructure construction projects in the southwestern border provinces with Haiti. Operalia is the world opera contest founded in 1993 by tenor Placido Domingo to discover and honor the best young operatic talents. Two galas have been held, one in 2003 and another in 2005. The 2007 gala was postponed because of a major tropical storm Olga that affected the southwest.
