The Ministry of Education has asked the United Nations Development Program, the World Food Program and Unicef to take over the design and implementation of a plan to improve the logistics, protocols for early warnings and nutritional monitoring of the RD$17 million a day public school breakfast program. The program is now entrusted to these entities for the next eight months, as reported in Listin Diario. The restructuring program will cost RD$18 million. Education Minister Melanio Paredes made the announcement with UNDP representative Valerie Julliand. Maria Jesus Conde of UNICEF also took part in the press conference.

Paredes said the aim is to increase the quality and the impact of the breakfast, as well as sanitary control and monitoring, so that the resources being invested by the government achieve the objectives. The plan will involve parents and teachers.

Paredes says that the government seeks to continue the school breakfast program that benefits 1.5 million children nationwide.
