Last night the Gigantes del Cibao shut out the Leones del Escogido, 3-0, behind excellent pitching by Kelvin Pucetas and the three relievers who followed him. Joel Peralta got the final three outs in the ninth to secure his first save of the season. In Santiago's venerable Estadio Cibao, the Aguilas Cibaenas fell to the Toros del Este, 2-1, as Ozzie Chavez who got the hit that produced the winning run for the Toros del Este. The new first baseman for the Aguilas, Keven Barker went 3-4 but it was not sufficient for the Aguilas who are now in sole possession of the cellar in the standings. In Santo Domingo, the Tigres del Licey hosted the Estrellas Orientales and lived to regret the invitation. They were soundly throttled by the Estrellas, 8-1. The league-leading Estrellas sent Radhames Liz to the mound and he was nearly untouchable for six innings. Licey saw their five-game winning streak come to a halt. They left a total of 11 men on base.
