President Leonel Fernandez sent congratulations yesterday to Texas Rangers closer, Dominican Neftali Feliz who was named American League Rookie of the Year on Monday.
It is a privilege for the Dominican people to have among us such a talented baseball star at such a young age," commented President Fernandez.
The fact that Feliz saved more games this season than any rookie in baseball history was recognized in 20 of the 28 ballots in the voting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Feliz set a new record with 40 saves. He made the difference in helping the Texas Rangers reach the World Series for the first time. "It is incredible," Feliz told MLB.com. "I have to thank my teammates. It was a great season and we had a great year. I feel honored to receive this recognition and I feel very proud of it."
