The Council for the Strategic Development of the City and Municipality of Santiago (CDES) presented a new 2010-2020 Strategic Plan yesterday that seeks to promote entrepreneurship, create worthwhile jobs, a connected and orderly city with social, gender and territorial equity, as reported in Hoy.

The vision seeks to create conditions for environmental sustainability and health among citizens, with opportunities for education and cultural promotion. The plan promotes activities that motivate the democratic participation of residents and a permanent improvement in their quality of life.

Carlos Alfredo Fondeur, president of the organization, gave the keynote address during the presentation that was attended by First Lady Margarita Cedeno, the Mayor of Santiago Gilberto Serulle and Archbishop of Santiago Ramon Benito de la Rosa y Carpio at the Gran Teatro del Cibao. Fondeur said that the plan was the result of a titanic number of work sessions and analysis of city residents. It encompasses the work of 245 public and private institutions, 50 structured projects and was harmonized with the government, the city government, the civil society, private sector and residents.
