His protest started when he lost his government job, but his pilgrimage a la Jesus Christ with cross and all garnered him much media coverage. The government offered him a RD$10,000 job, but now he has turned it down. He said that if he were to accept, it would change the spirit of how his protest evolved, to call for the construction of the Dajabon-Loma de Cabrera highway. He said that he decided to turn down the job offer after talking to the Dajabon priest, Roberto Guzman. He said he didn't walk with a 30 lb. cross from Dajabon to Santo Domingo for a job. He explained that he had originally accepted the job because he had been told it would enable him to work for his community. Sosa will not be unemployed, though, because Father Guzman has a job waiting for him. Sosa was hospitalized at the Clinica Cruz Jiminian to recover from his 305km trek. He will go home with a promise from the authorities that work on the highway will start "as soon as possible."
