The 18-month grace period granted by the Central Bank to businessman Julio Hazim for the repayment of his debts with collapsed bank Baninter ran out last July, according to Central Bank Governor Hector Valdez Albizu in a letter to CLAVE Director Fausto Rosario Adames. Hazim's debt with Baninter is RD$1.93 billion plus US$23 million. These are for investments made by the Grupo Hazim in the Centro Medico Internacional INCE, Consorcio Agroindustrial Canabrava, FM Distribuidora de Publicaciones and personal accounts of Julio Hazim and Michael Hazim Ruiz. That is in addition to a RD$20 million personal loan for the purchase of the Mytos and Pappalapasta restaurants. Hazim is a well known TV news commentator and lobbyist, and baseball team businessman.
