While hotel managers say that they are heeding the government's measures to limit the risk of cholera in the Dominican Republic, the nation's builders and construction companies are saying that the government's attempt to prohibit the hiring of Haitian construction workers would "lead to greater national insecurity." The Association of Builders and Housing Promoters (Acoprovi) said that the provision would be a retrograde step for the property sector, since in Bavaro and Samana as much as 95% of the work force is Haitian, and in Santo Domingo the figure is close to 75%. Acoprovi president Jaime Gonzalez told Diario Libre reporters that, "the first thing the government should do is eliminate illegal immigration." He asked: "What is the government going to do now with the number of unemployed Haitians"?
