On Friday night, the Leones del Escogido defeated the Toros del Este in the Quisqueya Stadium by a score of 8-2. The Leones were led by good pitching from Nerio Rodriguez and good hitting by Carlos Gomez. The victory breaks a four-game losing streak for the Leones. In San Francisco de Macoris, the hosts Gigantes del Cibao won a slugfest with the Tigres del Licey, sending the "Blues" to fourth place in the standings. Slugfest? Yes, the final score was 12-10. The game saw homeruns by Wilson Betemit, Victor Diaz for the Gigantes and Timo Sosa for the Tigres. In San Pedro de Macoris, the Aguilas Cibaenas won a game against the Estrellas Orientales 7-4. Eric Halama was the first Aguila starting pitcher to get a win this season.

On Saturday night, the Leones del Escogido obtained some revenge on the Gigantes del Cibao, defeating them in a tight, 4-3, game. Joel Carreno worked five innings of one-hit, one-run baseball, and got the win. In Santiago, the Aguilas Cibaenas defeated the Toros del Este, 4-3, in spite of only getting 4 hits and the Toros getting 10. However the four hits included a homerun and a game-winning single by Hector Luna. Bartolo Colon continued to show his arm is still strong, going 7 and 1/3 innings of one-run baseball and showing a 0.70 ERA. In San Pedro de Macoris, Felix Pie and Polin Trinidad guided the Estrellas Orientales to a needed win, 4-2. Trinidad threw five innings of two-hit, no-run baseball.

On Sunday, Baseball fans were given the rare treat of two double-headers. Because of some recent rains the Estrellas and Escogido played two games and so did the Toros and the Gigantes. The Aguilas played Licey in a single game.

In the first of the double-bill, the Leones defeated the Estrellas by a score of 7-1 behind the good pitching of Yuneski Maya and the timely hitting by Peter Bourjos. In the second game, the Estrellas eked out a 5-4 victory with the help of three hits and a double by Alex Valdez. In La Romana, the Toros del Este returned to first place in the standings with twin victories over the Gigantes del Cibao, by scores of 7-3 and 5-2. They hit well, stole bases and were backed by good pitching. With 10 hits in each game the Toros reached the16-11 mark and are back into first place in the standings. Meanwhile, in the only single game of the day, the Aguilas Cibaenas, playing before a packed house in the Estadio Cibao, put on a great show, coming from four runs down to take the Tigres del Licey by a score of 6-5 and climb out of the cellar. Although no one knows if it would have been decisive, Brad Snyder of Licey hit a long homerun that was disallowed because the umpire at first base had called time out. This was the Aguilas fifth straight win and Licey's sixth straight loss.
