The NGO Citizen Participation (PC) has expressed concern about the difficulties faced by poor people who try to seek help from the justice system. PC says that this is one of the civil rights most commonly violated in the country. During an event celebrating the first anniversary of the Community House of Justice in La Vega, sponsored by PC, general coordinator Santiago Sosa said that poorer members of society come across many obstacles when seeking justice. These include the high costs, lack of information, lack of education, the high number of unscrupulous people who trick the poor and more.

According to El Caribe, Sosa said that access to justice is one of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and international conventions. He said that this was why Citizen Participation and the Justice Department had joined forces to promote these Community Houses of Justice. He noted that in La Vega alone, the Community House of Justice provided legal assistance to more than 1,800 people in just one year.
