Today's newspapers are reporting that President Leonel Fernandez visited Hipolito Mejia yesterday evening at the Cedimat medical center in the Plaza de la Salud, where the former president is recovering from prostate surgery. A spokesman for Mejia, Hector Gomez, said that Fernandez arrived at the medical center around 7:30pm, together with the Minister of Public Works Victor Diaz Rua, Attorney General Radhames Jimenez Pena and National Penitentiary School director Roberto Santana. The visit lasted for about 25 minutes, during which Fernandez and Mejia held a closed-door meeting of some 10 minutes.
Earlier, Mejia's personal physician urologist Octavio Cruz Pineda said that the ex-President could be released in the next few hours in order to continue recovering at home. The specialist said that the patient was making a good recovery from Tuesday's endoscopic prostate operation.
Fernandez also visited former President Salvador Jorge Blanco who is being treated at the Abel Gonzalez Clinic on Abraham Lincoln Avenue.
