As part of its "To save is to do good" program, the Banco Popular Dominicano (BPD) organized a contest for schools on the theme of recycling. The contest, called "I recycle", was coordinated by the Center for Farm and Forestry Development (CEDAF), a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable development in the country. The CEDE, CENTU and Lucerito schools were the winners in the category for the "most weight per student", and the big schools La Salle, Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia and San Judas Tadeo won the prizes for the gross weight category. El Nuevo Diario says that the students collected over 89,000 kilograms of paper for recycling, exceeding the estimates while creating a new culture of recycling among 50,000 students.
