The Corripio Foundation awarded their annual prizes during a ceremony held at the National Theater on Wednesday evening. Dr. Arnaldo Espaillat Cabral received the Prize for Natural Science and for Health, Dr. Wilfredo Lozano was awarded the prize for Social Sciences and Domingo Batista was awarded the prize for Art. The prizes were announced by the executive director of the foundation Jacinto Gimbernard, who stressed that the jury had been free to choose candidates without any pressure from any source. The winners of this year's awards are certainly outstanding members of their respective fields: Wilfredo Lozano is an outstanding sociologist whose work is cited both nationally and internationally, Arnaldo Espaillat Cabral, an ophthalmologist, is credited with the modernization of his field in the Dominican Republic, and was especially recognized for his work in the effects of toxoplasmosis on eyesight, which has prevented hundreds of Dominicans from losing their vision, and photographer's photographer Domingo Batista was honored for a career lasting more than 40 years of work, which has won prizes all over the world.
