Last night the Leones del Escogido were able to cut their losing streak at three and extend the negative streak of the Estrellas Orientales to four. The "Reds" were once again hitting behind the really good pitching of Nerio Rodriguez who lowered his ERA to a measly 0.76 earned runs per game. Nerio pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball and Eury Perez nearly hit for the cycle, getting a single, a double and a triple. The final score was 7-2 in favor of the Leones. Over in La Romana, the visiting Gigantes were able to win for the first time in the Francisco Micheli Stadium, as they defeated the league-leading Toros by a score of 4-1. Francisco Cruceta pitched two perfect innings in relief to pick up the win. Jose Constanza of the Toros extended his hitting streak to 21 games. Matt McBride, the batting star of the Gigantes, left for the United States yesterday. He had produced 31 hits, 6 doubles, 26 RBI in 110 at bats for the team. In the Estadio Cibao, the home of the Aguilas Cibaenas, the Tigres del Licey suffered their worst loss of the season 16-3 as the home town Aguilas , with Kevin Barker's bases loaded home run enjoyed their seventh victory in eight games.
