The 9th National Population and Housing Census began today. It should have commenced on 24 November but was postponed. The poll was delayed because of difficulties in the logistics of the distribution of the per diems. The census will employ 60,000 people nationwide. Director of the National Statistics Office (ONE) Pablo Tactuk said that the snags had been worked out. He expected the pollsters to be early on the job visiting households to gather information on place of birth, occupation, economic activity, characteristics of the dwelling, and other aspects. Tactuk stressed the importance of the survey for the preparation of public policies and planning.
