The construction of the Santo Domingo Metro System is eating up the financial resources of the government and increasing the foreign debt load of the nation, according to Jesuit economist Jose Luis Aleman. Aleman says that this is the reason the Fernandez administration doesn't have any money to build schools. Aleman is well known as the head of the Economics Department at the PUCMM campus in Santo Domingo. During his interview on the Uno + Uno television show, Aleman said that due to the sheer size of the metro project the government has been left without resources to carry out other important public works projects. He also expressed serious concerns as to whether the metro would even be finished during the current administration as project leader Diandino Pena has stated. The professor said that the country has never had any experience in developing this type of a project and this will hinder its progress.
