The executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini has announced that by the end of 2011 at the latest 50% of the power generation in the Dominican Republic will be natural gas based. This will reduce the cost of power production.
As reported in 7dias.com.do (http://7dias.com.do), Marranzini also announced that investments in the grid and the tele-metering plan would enable the CDEEE to add 86,000 new paying customers. He expressed his satisfaction at Congress having passed a US$30 million loan to rehabilitate the grid, and improve conditions for the power distributors, EdeSur, EdeNorte and EdeEste to be more efficient in collecting on power served.
