IMF required electricity hike, says VP

Vice-President Rafael Alburquerque told reporters in Santiago that the 11% hike in the electricity rates this month was made in response to a requirement by the International Monetary Fund. Nevertheless, he said that the government was analyzing the situation as set out by the international financial organization. He said that the administration always listens to the voice of the people, but it has to take the measures required to maintain stability. According to El Nuevo Diario, Alburquerque was visiting families that benefit from the Solidarity Program in Tamboril, Villa Gonzalez and Santiago over the weekend.
